Tombs Of The Kings Of Mataram, Kota Gede

Kotagede is an area located about 10 km south of Yogyakarta. Formerly, the area is a center of government Kotagede Islamic Mataram Kingdom in the mid-sixteenth century AD In this area there are complex tombs of the kings of Mataram, which became the dimakamkannya Panembahan Senapati, the first king of Mataram Islam.

This tomb complex, located about 50 m south of Pasar Gede, Kecamatan Kotagede. In addition there is the tomb of Panembahan Senapati, in this cemetery there are also other royal family tomb. Among these are, Ki Ageng archery was the father of Panembahan Senapati, Nyai Ageng Nis and P. Prono Djoyo which is the grandparent of Panembahan Senapati, lane II, and also Prince Duke Pakualam I.
To enter the tomb of the kings of this complex, visitors will pass through four gates first. The first gate is padaruksa shaped building, which is a gateway building that has a roof cover, which connects both sides of the barrier construction. Among the first gate to the second gate, visitors will see Ward Duda. Ward, the umbrella by a large and shady banyan tree, which is often called Waringin Sepuh. That said, this elderly Waringin Kanjeng planted by Sunan Kalijaga, at the time before Kotagede built. Leaves of this tree, by the local people believed to have the prestige of its own. Passing through the third gate, visitors can see the Great Mosque compound, where there are homes around the servants. The Great Mosque was built by Sultan Agung, the grandson of Panembahan Senapati. West of this mosque, there are about 720 Islamic Mataram royal family tomb.
One of the uniqueness in this cemetery, is the existence of the tomb which is only half a body to bury it. The tomb belonged to Kyai Wonoboyo Mangir, which is the law as well as the enemy of Panembahan Senopati. Since it is considered as rebels, were killed by Kyai Wonoboyo Mangir Panembahan Senapati. Head Kyai Wonoboyo Mangir dibenturkan to the throne of Panembahan Senapati, by Panembahan own. Kyai body Wonoboyo Mangir buried in two separate places. Most were in the fort cemetery, others outside it. It’s a symbol that Kyai Wonobayo Mangir is the enemy at once-in-law of Panembahan Senapati.
Many visitors, who make pilgrimages to this tomb to ask safety. After pleading safety, most of the visitors continued to soak in the spring that was in the tomb area. This Spring, divided into two, namely Spring Kakung for the men, and the Spring Princess for the women. Visitors who soak in this spring believe that by bathing in it, a disease that affects the middle can be cured. In addition, many also believe that if water from the second spring can bring prosperity.
Tomb Kings Kotagede, located in District Kotagede, the city of Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta Province, Indonesia. This tomb was opened only twice a week, on Monday at 10:00 to 12:00 pm and Friday at 13:30 to 16:00 pm.
To get to the tombs of the kings Kotagede, you can use the bus Trans Jogja, route 3A and 3B, for Rp 3.000, 00 per persons. You can get off at stop Tegalgendu or stop of HS Silver. From both stops, the trip can proceed using the tricycles to the cemetery, and pay about Rp 15,000, 00 (2009).
To enter the cemetery of the kings in this Kotagede, visitors are not charged any fees. However, visitors can contribute seiklasnya the cemetery caretaker, who usually accompany the visitors.
For the pilgrimage to this tomb, visitors must use the special dress that consists of beskap for men, while for women in the form of a tank top and a long cloth. If a visitor does not have this traditional clothing, not to worry. Because, the guardians of this tomb complex, providing clothes that can be rented visitors with price Rp 10.000,00 per person (2009).
In addition, in this region there are wards that, can be used by visitors as a place to rest. The Great Mosque is also located in this region, so that visitors do not have to worry if the prayer time has come. Not far from this cemetery, there Pasar Gede, many of which sell food or beverages. So, if you feel hungry and thirsty after a pilgrimage, visitors can immediately go Pasar Gede.
